Germany 1938: Liselotte, Leon, Minna and Hildegard are close friends. Nothing can separate the buttoned ones that are connected with friendship bracelets. But as war is nearing, nothing remains the same. From week to week the life of Liselotte and the others keep changing. Hildegard is no longer allowed to meet her friends and the Jewish school is closed after a dark November night. Liselotte hears about a ship that Minna and her parents are sailing away with... Only their devoted teacher, Miss Hirschberg, is an anchor in these dark times.
